[ English ]

There is a captivating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games.
