Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, contains 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
